I find myself responding to a variety
of communication types. Although visual seems to be of the most
popular forms, written and audio gain my attention more often.
Written communication to me is the most "direct." The words
are right in front of you, in most forms there is little to no hidden
meaning so you can relay the same message to multiple people. Written
communication also leaves the reader with the freedom to create their
own visuals. Audio communication is extremely appealing to me.
Listening to music, hearing a poet cite poetry, or sirens and alarms
warning us of danger are all valuable communication outlets. Music
and poetry are pure. Often, they express the author's true feeling
about a situation. Without sirens and alarms to warn us about dangers
such as fires and hurricanes it would be more difficult to
communicate an emergency situation to a mass of people. A fire alarm
for example communicates one universal message, we are taught at a
young age what that message is and without it many more lives would
be lost.
For visual communications, color is a
necessary tool. Colors relay different messages and promote specific
feelings. The color red for example is looked at being a passionate
color often symbolizing anger or love. Purple was often the color of
royal dignitaries which symbolize power.

The company Amazon has had strong visual presence
exhibiting a successful brand logo. An arrow going from “a” to
the “z” is meant to represent that Amazon has “everything from
a to z.” The arrow is also in the shaped like a smiley face which
represents customer satisfaction. Type is what really makes this logo
a success.
